Picture this, early Sunday morning, in my room, 3 computers, each on separate internet connections, and constantly hitting F5 to refresh a registration screen. That was me 11/04/07.
It was Ironman Florida 2008 registration day. The race sold out in 7 minutes. So call me crazy, but i find it a little strange that one has to go to such great lengths to register for a race to torture themselves for an entire day. Oh, and did I mention the entry fee is $475! Crazy. Anyways, this is how it works:
- 2000 total spots.
- The day before the 2007 race (which was on 11/04/07), registration opens up for that year's present racers to sign up for next year.
- The day after the race, from 9-11AM CST, registration opens up for people AT the local race site.
- Then if there are any spots still left, it opens up to the internet.
But luckily, I'm in!!! Though I'm not quite sure I've fully realized exactly what i've gotten myself into...

So I've finally decided to do an ironman...
As some of those who know me have already learned, I've decided to try to do an ironman. It's been a long road to this point, from track/x-country back in hs, to marathons, to other triathlon races. My moment of realization came this past September 2007 when I finished my first 1/2 ironman distance race. Felt pretty good after, and it gave me the confidence to go for the whole shebang. Doing an IM has always been a bit of a life goal, and figured life will probably only get busier, so why not go for it now?
Deciding to do this blog is an entirely other story, as i'm not exactly 100% sure of why I am (never really been into the whole blogging thing). Maybe it will turn out to be a good place to chronicle my story (as i've read tons of other people's IM adventures), or maybe it will provide inspiration for someone else to do the same, or become a resource for another prospective athlete? Regardless of what it turns out to be, let's just wait and see how it goes.
